The Friedrichshafen Rally - 2011

We have just completed another successful visit to one of the largest and best Amateur Radio Rallies left in Europe.

This year's event took place June 24-26 and attracted 184 exhibitors and 16,300 visitors, down slightly on last year's 16,800. The visitors came from all over the world, among the many countries represented were the United Kingdom, Italy, Malaysia, Japan, Qatar and the United States.

This year, eight of us (Andy G7HUD, Bob G4NCI, Denis G3UVR, Darren G7LWT, Gordon G8MMM, John G7LLQ, Neil G4OAR and Phil G6IIM) made the journey to the HAM RADIO International Rally at Friedrichshafen.  Seven of us flew from Manchester and Andy flew from Edinburgh to Zurich.  We then picked up a train direct to Romanshorn followed by the ferry over Lake Constance to Friedrichshafen.

For Andy it was his 20th visit followed by Neil who has clocked up 19 trips closely followed by Phil with 18.  Also present but not in the photo below were Denis, John and Darren who made a quick dart for the bargains.

Once again we were extremely lucky with some fine (but not too hot) weather on most of the days and no requirement to deploy waterproofs !

As always, it proved a most enjoyable few days away to a truly beautiful part of Germany with an excellently run Ham Radio Rally.  It looks likely that our Wirral & District ARC contingent might increase in numbers again next year with a few more interested in joining us.

Here's but a selection of photos for you to enjoy from our 2011 visit :-
